Speaker Series: THE RISE & FALL OF BRITISH MUSIC HALL
When: Friday 23 May 2025
The Gallery @ Bovey Paradiso
THE RISE & FALL OF BRITISH MUSIC HALL
Presented by Chris Woodward, a talk illustrating the birth & demise of this unique genre of live entertainment, through a select set of its most famous singing & comedic stars. It also includes a look at societal change & the massive inequalities across this period as well the fame, scandals and the 'hidden' deeper risqué meanings of some of the verses in otherwise innocuous songs.
Basically, all of this sets up a really good excuse for a great sing-a-longs including: "Don’t Dilly Dally", "Daddy Wouldn't Buy Me a Bow Wow!", "The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo", “If You Were the Only Girl in The World” - All words on screen or on the song sheets provided.
All in all, it offers the opportunity for a bit of fun audience participation. Period dress optional! Don’t be shy because as the song states:
“A Little of What You Fancy Does You Good!”
Tickets are £10 each and there are a limited number of tickets available - book yours now!
Friday 23rd May - Doors will open at 7pm for a 7.30 start. There will be a licensed bar available on the evening.
