THE MAKING OF WAR HORSE AND OTHER FILMS ON DARTMOOR
The next event in our Speaker Series is this fascinating talk looking at filming on Dartmoor, including the making of War Horse in 2010 and exploring the tricks used to make this great movie. The evening will also explore TV programmes such as Down to Earth, Gold Digger and the 1985 film, Revolution, made on Dartmoor and Bigbury Bay, South Devon and featuring our speaker Paul Rendell as an extra in the film.
Also known as 'Dartmoor Paul', Paul Rendell was born in Plymouth and became enthusiastic about Dartmoor from an early age after being taken on numerous outings by his parents. Burrator and Sheepstor were two of the favourite places they explored as a family.
Paul has written four books; 'Exploring the Lower Walkham Valley', 'Exploring Around Burrator', 'Okehampton Through Time' and 'Exploring Around Burrator - Updated Edition'. The latter was published in April 2023 and is an update of the original, containing lots more information and photographs, both historical and modern.
He is working on his next book 'Ghostly Dartmoor' about Dartmoor's many myths and legends and the strange happenings across the moor.
Today, Paul lives in Okehampton with his partner Pauline Greenwood.
