The Gallery @ Bovey Paradiso
The gallery at Paradiso is excited to announce that we have one of our most popular artists, Richard Thorn SWAc, in our lovely space for a two-week, one-man show.
‘’ I like to paint the soul of the scene I’m working on, depicting the essence of that which is before me ‘’
Born in Torquay, England 1952, Richard’s art began with drawing. His love of the countryside and the sea drew him to sketch and paint nature in and around his close environment. Since those early days, his paintings have been exhibited around England, Europe, America and China. The Artist is principally self-taught apart from his schooling and a spell at Art college after leaving school.
His work has been exhibited and bought by collectors throughout England. His work was spotted by John Robertson at the Bourne gallery in Reigate and subsequently enjoyed several exhibitions there before John retired. John Davies at the John Davies gallery in Gloucestershire took up the baton and has been exhibiting the artist's work ever since. He has won two awards at the Royal Institute (for painters in watercolour) at the Mall Galleries in London - 2016/17 and his book - Down an English lane - was published in 2016. The artist's work depicts the moods and flavors of the countryside, focusing on light and form. Principally working with watercolour he has, over the years, worked with other mediums - Acrylic, watercolour inks and gouache. Richard has now been made a member of the Royal Institute (of painters in watercolour).
"I have always felt a deep connection with the sea and countryside. Painting goes beyond the aesthetic into a more personal realm where I attempt to capture my feeling impressions."
A fantastic selection of his amazing watercolours will be on display and there will also be opportunities to meet Richard.
The show will commence on Tuesday October 1st and opening hours will be extended, with the gallery being open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10.30am to 4pm. The exhibition ends on Saturday October 12th.
